Scones

Scones, glorious scones!

I'll confess, this is one of those recipes I don't want to share. It is one of my signature baked goods, and my mom's favorite. It is a treat for breakfast because they aren't overwhelmingly sweet, but have great flavor. You can also make any kind of scone you like by adding the nut, fruit, or "chip" of your choosing. I've made chocolate chip scones, pumpkin chip scones, as well as the traditional cherry, cranberry, pecan, almond, and walnut scones.

Ingredients:

3 cups of flour

1/2 cup of sugar

5 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup butter (softened)

1 egg

1 cup milk

**1 cup of scone ingredient of choice (chopped almonds, pecans, walnuts, cherries, cranberries, chocolate chips, etc.) You can mix and match :)

Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease parchment paper on a baking sheet. (If you don't have parchment paper, I would highly recommend investing in some. I have noticed a tremendous difference in my baked goods coming out better with it, especially on the bottom).

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter. Mix the egg and milk in a small bowl, and stir into flour mixture until moistened.

  • Turn dough out on lightly floured surface, and knead briefly. Roll dough out into a 1/2 thick round. Cut into 8 wedges, and place on prepared baking sheet.

  • Bake for 15 minutes, or, until golden brown.

Of course, they are the BEST when they are warm, fresh out of the oven!
